GNC Tree Program and Arbor Day Celebration on April 13 (raindate April 14)

HONORING THE BEAUTY & WONDER OF TREES:

THE GREENBURGH NATURE CENTER CELEBRATES ARBOR DAY!

On Saturday, April 13 (raindate: Sunday, April 14th), the GNC will celebrate trees with a festival of fun and learning for families and all those who love and care for trees. All activities are free and open to the public.

Starting at 1pm, SavATree is hosting a family tree-learning activity. Kids and adults alike can enjoy learning to identify several species of trees and winning prizes by playing this Tree Identification Game out on the GNC’s Great Lawn and gardens.

From 2-4pm, internationally known tree expert Frank Buddingh teaches us how to support the overall health of our trees in this time of climate change. Frank explains how to recognize ‘signatures’ – the subtle signs which can indicate that a tree needs structural attention before weather brings disaster to the tree and surrounding property. This program includes an illustrated talk and outside walk on our property to study GNC trees.

Culminating the day at 4pm, the Town of Greenburgh, recently named a Tree City USA Community by the Arbor Day Foundation for the third consecutive year, celebrates Arbor Day at the Nature Center. Join us at our barnyard as Town Forestry Officer Aaron Schmidt reads the Town’s Arbor Day Proclamation. Immediately following the proclamation, we are planting a native White Oak tree donated by Mario Pansarella & Sons Landscaping. Steve Skyer of SavATree, representatives of The Care of Trees, and Con-Edison are assisting with the planting and providing information on tree planting and care. Free seedling trees will be available so that attendees can take home and plant a young tree on their own property.
