PRLC is a private, non-profit corporation with the mission of preserving the semi-rural character of Pound ridge through the acquisition, conservation and stewardship of land in town. The Conservancy’s preserves are kept in their natural state for aesthetic, ecological and education purposes. The preserves are held in perpetuity i.e. they cannot be sold.
The PRLC is involved in the following activities in support of its mission:
- Preserving undeveloped land in town through encouraging private, outright donations of land and the donation of conservation easements restricting development rights.
- Stewardship of our current land holding in town consisting of 14 preserves totaling 335 acres and approximately 50 additional acres conserved through conservation easements held in partnership with the Westchester Land Trust.
- Community education on land conservation and natural resource protection through guided, educational walks, seminars/talks given by expert guests, demonstration and hands-on projects, informative articles published locally and online on land conservation issues , and other targeted educational outreach.
- Through mapping efforts, identifying strategic parcels of land in town that contribute to the scenic beauty, biotic diversity and semi-rural character of Pound Ridge with the goal of preserving them in their natural state.
- Working cooperatively with other local land protection organizations and town agencies and boards on land conservation through advocacy, education, outreach and demonstration projects that promote local land and natural resource protection.
