Bartlett Arboretum Vacation Camps

Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens Spring Vacation Camp is a full day camp program offered to inquisitive children between the ages of 5 to 11 years old. Sign up for individual day sessions or the whole week to give your children a vacation with nature and learning to last a lifetime. Each day children will explore a different topic related to the botanical and natural world led by our trained children’s education staff. A healthy snack will be provided free by Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens. Each child is responsible for their own peanut-free lunch. Children should dress appropriately for the weather as we will be spending time outside each day. Campers will spend their day discovering, experiencing, and appreciating the beauty and fun of nature!

TOPICS:

Habitats and Ecosytems – Monday April 15th: Campers will get a broad introduction into a variety of habitats and ecosytems from around the world. We will explore the wonders of the rainforest, the challenges of living in a desert, and also do some exploring in our wetland and pond habitats. Signs of Spring – Tuesday April 16th April’s weather is always full of surprises! Campers will spend the day looking for signs of spring throughout the arboretum’s property. What plants are early bloomers? Has the weather been warm enough for our reptiles and amphibians to come out of their winter’s rest? We will use binoculars, nets and magnifying glasses to get a close look at the plants and animals who call the arboretum home.

Everything Else – Wednesday, April 17th What birds stayed in Connecticut for the winter, and what birds have returned from their winter migration? From songbirds to birds of prey campers will learn the basics in bird identification and take part in some feathery crafts. We will hit the arboretum’s ground running with binoculars to find what habitats our birds are favoring.

Super Scientists – Thursday, April 18th This session is perfect for the budding scientist in your family. Working with arboretum teachers, campers will recreate some famous experiments throughout history, and break some new ground by creating our own experiments to test throughout the day. Science of Soil – Friday, April 19th This is the perfect day for the child that likes to get a little dirty. Participants will learn all about worm composting, rainforest decomposers, plants with impressive root systems and what animals in Southern Connecticut spend most of their lives underground.
