The Discovery Center at Ridgefield is hosting a Feathered Friends Workshop for all ages on Saturday, February 1st at 10:00 A.M. in the Barn Classroom of The Hickories Farm, 136 Lounsbury Road, in Ridgefield.
Participants will be provided with the opportunity to make bird feeders out of natural materials to hang at home. A waxed cardboard roosting box will also be assembled and ready to take home by the end of the program. Both of these projects are designed to help out the songbirds in our area. Many songbird species migrate south for the winter, but a few remain here in Connecticut and will benefit from homemade feeders and shelter boxes. A guest speaker – Mother Nature, of course – will share stories of animals and their adaptations for winter survival in the woods. The program will provide interesting information about the songbirds likely to visit these feeders and boxes in the backyards of Connecticut.
Participants should dress for the outdoors. The fee is $4 per person for members, and $11 for non-members. Please call 203.438.1063 or visit the DC website www.ridgefielddiscovery.org to make reservations. This program is co-sponsored by The Hickories.
