FILM SCREENING AND HONEY TASTING EVENT

SLOW FOOD METRO NORTH PRESENTS A FILM SCREENING AND HONEY TASTING EVENT- “QUEEN OF THE SUN: WHAT ARE THE BEES TELLING US?” IN PARTNERSHIP WITH JOHN JAY HOMESTEAD

This film is part of a nation-wide movement to raise awareness in the communities about the Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) of the honeybee and reveal both the problems and solutions in renewing a balance with nature.

What: The event will begin with the screening of “Queen of the Sun: What are the Bees Telling Us?” This beautiful nature film will take you on a journey through the catastrophic disappearance of bees and the mysterious world of the beehive. This engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva.

Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with several local beekeepers, including celebrated author Marina Marchese of Red Bee Apiaries, DJ Haverkamp of Bedford Bee, Deb Taft of Mobius Fields, a farmer & beekeeper, who trained under Gunther Hauk and Douglass DiCandia, a farmer with the Food Bank of Westchester.

A celebration of honey, cheese and wine to follow! Marina Marchese, whose selection of single-origin honeys is sought by celebrity chefs, will lead a honey tasting, paired with a variety of artisanal cheeses & breads and complimented by a selection of HudsonValley wine for an educational yet delightful culinary experience.
