“Power Training” Workshop for Youth Soccer Players to stress Conditioning and Safety on and off the Field
ONS Foundation will partner with Shoreline FC to help educate kids on
fitness and sports injury prevention

GREENWICH, CT – On Friday, March 15, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., the popular youth soccer club Shoreline FC will team up with the ONS Foundation for Clinical Research and Education to present, Power Training for Soccer Kids: Play Strong- Play Safe. The program is open to Greenwich High School and Shoreline FC member soccer players, ages 10 through 18 and will take place at Greenwich Catholic School at 471 North Street. To register for the workshop, please call 203-869-3131, or send an email to contact@ons-foundation.org.

The workshop has been developed as a conditioning program that emphasizes the importance of fitness and athletic preparedness both on and off the field. It will stress the importance of staying healthy and fit as a way to maximize the benefits of the team experience and field performance, but also to lead a healthy productive life. Playing team sports builds skills and relationships that go well beyond the field, but when injuries take kids out of play and away from the team, there can be both physical and psychological repercussions. Therefore injury prevention is a central theme.

Licensed Physical Therapists with the ONS Foundation will introduce the underlying research behind injury prevention which shows how proper conditioning and strengthening of sports specific muscle groups provides athletes with the foundation to effectively avoid injuries. The therapists will demonstrate conditioning and strengthening exercises and will work with players in smaller groups to teach conditioning and strengthening exercises that are specifically for soccer.

“The aim of this program is to provide the kids with what they need to enjoy their sport to the fullest,” said sports medicine specialist and ONS Foundation President Dr. Paul Sethi. “Involving parents is very important as strengthening and conditioning requires a disciplined routine to be done at home as well as on the field. Parents’ encouragement cannot be understated.” Following the breakout conditioning sessions, there will be an open Q and A period where parents and kids can have their questions answered.
