Connecticut Trails Day Geocache Hike

On the weekend of June 1st and 2nd, Connecticut will host Connecticut Trails Day Weekend—the largest National Trails Day (NTD) celebration in the nation with 259 events scheduled in 152 towns on over 560 miles of trail throughout the state. Nearly every town in Connecticut will be taking part in this annual tradition, which will feature events for everyone, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, running, trail maintenance, kayaking, educational walks, bird watching, geocaching, and more.

On Saturday, June 1 at 1:30 p.m., Allison Archambault and Mendy Polchinski from the Discovery Center at Ridgefield will be leading a geocache hike at Bennett’s Pond State Park on Bennett’s Farm Road.  Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt using a GPS enabled phone or device to find hidden containers or “caches.”  This event is fun for the whole family and no experience or GPS is required.

Expect a 2-mile adventure over moderate terrain, wear sturdy shoes and bring water.

Please register at DISCOVERY CENTER AT RIDGEFIELD www.ridgefielddiscovery.org, or call 203-438-1063.  All ages welcome, and participation is free.

As part of NTD, a nationwide hiking initiative established by the American Hiking Society in 1993, Connecticut’s weekend-long celebration is coordinated by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association (CFPA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving Connecticut’s land, trails, and natural resources. This long-standing event celebrates the state’s spectacular trails, the many joys and benefits they provide, and the countless supporters and volunteers who make them possible.
