Don’t miss this adults-only, performance-art-meets-life sketching class, celebrating the dynamic fusion of drawing, photography, and rock ’n’ roll.
Friday, January 24 · 6 pm to 8:30 pm
Member · $10.00 Non-member · $15.00 register online
The session will be led by Dr. Sketchy’s, a unique arts organization that combines a traditional art class with non-traditional models like burlesque performers, cabaret stars, roller derby skaters, and circus artists in a casual, fun environment. Aldrich members are invited to a private class in the James Mollison exhibition, The Disciples, at 6 pm, where model Kitty Katastrophy and emcee Mistress Dot Mitzva will wear barely-there rock-inspired fashions. The public is welcome at 7 pm for cocktails and more sketching.
The Dr. Sketchy’s New Haven Chapter was established in 2009 in partnership with Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, founded in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple as an alternative to the sometimes-stuffy classroom experience of life drawing. Dr. Sketchy’s has brought artists a rule-breaking cocktail of dames, drinking, and drawing, with over one hundred branches worldwide.
It is not necessary to be an artist to join in—but participants must draw; don’t worry, lots of guests at Dr. Sketchy’s events are new to drawing, the object is to have fun. However, more seasoned artists are encouraged to take part and get their draw on!

The Aldrich Museum, founded by Larry Aldrich in 1964, The Aldrich is dedicated to fostering innovative artists whose ideas and interpretations of the world around us serve as a platform to encourage creative thinking. The Aldrich, which served an audience of over 37,700 in 2011, is one of the few independent, non-collecting contemporary art museums in the United States, and the only museum in Connecticut devoted to contemporary art. It is one of only twenty museums in Connecticut and only 318 art museums in the country to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. In 2011, The Aldrich implemented a new programming strategy of semester-long solo and group exhibitions united under overarching themes that link their content; the acclaimed gallery-based education programs use the work on view to help adults, families, and over 7,000 students annually to connect to our world through contemporary art.
