Pound Ridge Historical Society – Civil War Exhibit and Historical Cemeteries Lecture

HISTORICAL CEMETERIES LECTURE
In conjunction with the annual meeting of the Pound Ridge Historical Society, guest speaker Patrick Raferty will present his talk, “A Serious Undertaking — The Cemeteries of Pound Ridge and Environs: A Not-So Grave Discussion of Living History”. Patrick Raferty is currently the librarian and manager of the Westchester County Historical Society and co-editor of the society’s journal, The Westchester Historian.  Mr. Raferty has published extensively on the history of Westchester with a focus on revolutionary war sites and historical cemeteries.  He has a three-volume work on the cemeteries of Westchester County that is currently in the process of publication.

Annual Meeting & Lecture to be held on April 30, 2011 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at the Pound Ridge Hiram Halle Library, 271 Westchester Avenue, Pound Ridge

CIVIL WAR EXHIBIT
The exhibit documents Pound Ridge’s involvement in the Civil War and honors the 109 enlisted men of Pound Ridge, including First Sgt. Thomas J. Murphy of Pound Ridge, recipient of The Congressional Medal of Honor, the country’s highest military award. The exhibit also includes pages from the diary of Sgt. George E. Dixon who stood guard over the Lincoln conspirators and witnessed their court trial and execution. Also on exhibit is original Civil War art by Don Spaulding, original Union uniforms and other Civil War memorabilia.

Exhibit opens April 30, 2011 and continues every Sat & Sun through December 4, 2011, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.  Admission in free.  Museum is located at 255 Westchester Avenue, Pound Ridge; (914) 764-4333
